The White Desert to Dakhla Oasis tour is a private 4x4 trip from Cairo through Bahariya Oasis, the Black Desert and the White Desert, then about 300 km along the old Darb el-Qawafil caravan trail to Dakhla Oasis. We usually plan it over 3 days with 2 nights of desert camping, and the tour ends in Dakhla. The White Desert park fee ($10 per person) is paid separately.

White Desert to Dakhla tour: overview

Darb el-Qawafil means “the caravan trail” in Arabic. For centuries, caravans crossed the Western Desert from oasis to oasis, and this trail links the White Desert with Dakhla Oasis. Today it is an off-road route across rocky badlands, dunes and wide plains that few travelers drive.

Instead of returning to Cairo after the White Desert, you continue south to the oases of the New Valley, with an experienced local driver who knows the trail.
